I first became acquainted with Jason Borbay’s work when he was painting live at the “We Love Japan” fundraiser curated by The Influence Series, I even snapped a pic-> nwc365 blog. The artwork that Borbay created during the event was auctioned off and the proceeds were given to the american red cross to help the victims of the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan.
At Publicis Modem to a capacity crowd I was fascinated with the many layers of the #KingsOfHipHop pieces on display, be it words or images. It was like a rap song but instead of listening for quick wit, analogy and metaphors I was looking for them. I found myself discussing the art with total strangers, one of which is the young lady pictured blowing a kiss to Kanye’s likeness. I asked Borbay what was the concept for this series – “As a collage artist, the concept of standing amidst, alongside, in front and behind your words is captivating; who better to explore than rap artists?” Looking at his website he showcases his work, gives you a glimpse into his process and thoughts. I snapped a few quick photos of some of the pieces and the artist himself. The #KingsOfHipHop series included Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, Diddy, Eminem, Kanye, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne, some of which are still up for sale. To find out more about this artist check his website Borbay.com

KJ Rose has performed on The Monique Show, and BET Music Matters, to name a few places you might have already seen her. She has also worked with a host of other talented singers, check her website KJRose.com. These photos are from her performance at the Royalton Hotel where she was accompanied by an awesome live band . This was the second time I’ve seen her perform and as always it was a dancing good time. She performed a few songs from her current album “All Heart, No Regrets” as well as a few cover songs.
As long time reader of the blog A Belle in Brooklyn.com I was very excited when I learned that Demetria L. Lucas ” A Belle in Brooklyn” was writing a book. I stopped by one of the locations on her multi-city book tour to get my pre-ordered book signed by ABIB herself. In the packed section of Hue-man Bookstore she read an excerpt from her book ” A Belle in Brooklyn: The Go-to Girl for Advice on Living Your Best Single Life“, answered questions and doled out advice in a heartfelt-down to earth manner. Check out her book for yourself , catch her on the next stop of her book tour, as the relationships editor in essence magazine or her column “Real Talk” on Essence.com.
